Provides organization with support in developing and providing a comprehensive education program to meet the needs of the staff. This description is not intended to be a complete list of duties. Other duties may be assigned.


• Assists in the planning, development, and maintenance of a Nursing Services Orientation and Competency Program.
• Participates in presentation of the GCRMC Nursing Orientation Program.
• Makes self available to nursing staff when on duty.
• Provides feedback to departmental managers on individual staff member’s performance as requested and available. If individual needs of staff member identified, documents and refers in timely manner to department manager.
• Participates in the organization’s CEARP accreditation.
• Participates in community health fair and education.
• Participates in the education committee and attends meeting quarterly.
• Incorporates the roles of facilitator, change agent consultant, and leader in learning activities that support the nurse in developing and maintaining continuing professional nursing competence.
• Assist learners to identify both their learning needs and effective learning activities required to meet those needs.
• Assist individuals and groups in defining problems, identifying available internal and external educational resources and selecting educational options.
• Integrates relevant research outcomes into nursing professional developmental and organizational goals.
• Demonstrate leadership by maintaining educational or clinical competencies appropriate to role, reflecting own professional growth and development.
• Demonstrates knowledge of relevant educational content and appropriate methods of delivery and the ability to develop and facilitate relevant and effective education for adult learners.
• Develops, maintains and enhances own expertise in testing and outcome measurement, evaluation, learning theories and principles, methodologies of delivery and knowledge of teaching.
• Collects pertinent information related to potential educational needs of the nurse and the organization.
• Participates in regular needs assessment using sources including but not limited to the nurse, professional organizations, consumers, nursing experts, and reports on trends in the healthcare system, legislation, information about societal and organizational trends, and reports of advances in treatment and technology.
• Analyzes assessment data to determine the target audience and learner needs.
• Identified needs are validated with the nurse, content experts and other educators when possible and appropriate.
• Identifies the general purpose and educational objectives for each learning activity.
• Educational objectives are determined from the identified needs and incorporate principles of adult learning.
• Educational objectives are stated in behavioral terms and are written as measurable goals.
• Identifies and collaborates with content experts to develop activities to facilitate learners’ achievement of educational objectives.
• Learning activity content is individualized to the target audience, the resources available, and the domains of learning.
• Advocates and plans for appropriate support services for educational activities.
• Ensures that educational programs are congruent with organizational goals and are based on identified needs.
• Evaluates factors related to safety, effectiveness, availability and cost when choosing education options.
• Maintains excellent records.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


• Associates in Nursing, BSN strongly preferred.
• Licensure: New Mexico RN or Compact State License.
• Certification: American Heart Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor certified or certification obtained within 12 months of hire. ACLS and PALS instructor within 12 months of hire
• Three + years nursing experiences.
• Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications – word processing and computer spreadsheets.
• Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
• Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
• Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
• Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
• Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
• Knowledge of clinical facilities and equipment.
• Ability to supervise and train assigned staff.
• Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
• Performs related responsibilities as assigned.
