  • Overview

    The Hospital Supervisor is responsible for promoting and maintaining quality patient care through effective management of the activities of total patient care services during his/her assigned shift. The Hospital Supervisor has the authority and responsibility for administrative decisions and appropriate notification of the department director or CNO. Other duties as assigned.


    • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide services based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and other related criteria appropriate population in his/her assigned area
    • Maintains required core competencies.
    • Complies with set Policies and Procedures (i.e. name tag, dress code, parking, smoking, etc.)
    • Makes rounds in all patient care units to ascertain condition of patients, evaluate staffing needs, maximizes staffing efficiency while working to minimize overtime house wide. Provide support to care givers.
    • Coordinates patient throughput via bed assignment and timely admission of patient to receiving department.
    • Act as the hospital resource for support services and departments.
    • Keeps department director and CNO informed regarding circumstances or situations, which have or may have serious impact.
    • Participates in 2 or more committees.
    • Adheres to Absenteeism policy.
    • Participates and assists in the planning and providing of in-service education programs within the hospital or other meetings, seminars or institutes conducted outside the hospital.
    • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Maintains accurate and timely daily house report.


    • High School diploma or equivalent. Current American Heart – HeartSaver or Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
    • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, baccalaureate degree preferred.
    • Certification: Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, ACLS certification, PALS Certification, TNCC certification and CPI training within 6 months of hire.
    • NIMS certifications within 90 days of hire (NIMS 100, 200, 700).
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Additional languages preferred.
    • Basic computer knowledge.
    • Demonstrates leadership, managerial ability and the application of good interpersonal relationships and principles of supervision and administration.
    • Licensure: Hold current licensure in the state as a registered professional nurse.
    • Performs related responsibilities as assigned.
