Overview

Student Extern:

The Respiratory Student Extern administers respiratory care to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system under the direction of a physician and by prescription under control of a training supervisor. The Respiratory Student Extern will receive age specific competency assessment until the training supervisor determines that the permittee is competent to perform specific respiratory care functions independently and in accordance with the safe practice and patient care safety standards of the facility. The Respiratory Student Extern sets up and operates various types of equipment to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases and/or illnesses. He/she is involved in acute, clinical and/or life-threatening patient care areas and situations.  This description is not intended to be a complete list of duties. CRT:

The Level II Respiratory Care Practitioner administers respiratory care to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system under the direction of a physician and by prescription. The Level II RCP possesses sufficient training and experience to perform independent, professional respiratory care diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The Level II RCP sets up and operates various types of equipment to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases and/or illnesses.  He/she is involved in acute, clinical and/or life-threatening patient care areas and situations.  This description is not intended to be a complete list of duties. Other related duties may be assigned.

 

RRT:

The Level I Respiratory Care Practitioner administers respiratory care to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system under the direction of a physician and by prescription.  The Level I RCP possesses sufficient training and experience to perform independent, professional respiratory care diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.  The Level I RCP sets up and operates various types of equipment to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases and/or illnesses.  He/she is involved in acute, clinical and/or life-threatening patient care areas and situations.  This description is not intended to be a complete list of duties. Qualifications

Student Extern:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Current American Heart – HeartSaver or Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
• Performs related responsibilities as assigned.

 

CRT:

• High School diploma or equivalent. Current American Heart – HeartSaver or Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
• Certified Respiratory Therapist by the NBRC.
• Existing State of New Mexico Temporary Permit for GCRMC, or State of New Mexico Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
• Certificates to perform any invasive procedure within his/her scope of practice.

RRT:

High School diploma or equivalent. 
· State of New Mexico Respiratory Care Practitioner License.  Registered Respiratory Therapist by the NBRC.  Certificates to perform any invasive procedure within his/her scope of practice. 

Current American Heart –Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
